Seether/Black Stone Cherry in Chattanooga

Last week I went to see a couple of my favorite bands, Seether and Black Stone Cherry, at a great little venue in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Track 29 is an old skating rink behind the Chattanooga Choo Choo; it is a tiny little venue and a great place to see a show. I saw Jack White's first solo show there, so I was excited to go back and see Seether and Black Stone Cherry.

Track 29 doesn't hold a lot of people, so you're going to be close to the stage wherever you are inside the building. And, it is a very, very loud venue. It's fucking great.

The crowd was pretty much packed-in near the stage by the time that Black Stone Cherry came on. If you don't know Black Stone Cherry, you need to educate yourself. They are pure southern rock. If they were around in 1974 they'd be on tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd and Marshall Tucker.

They bring tons of energy, but the crowd was kind of dead. It was strange. When they went into Blind Man, the crowd didn't really respond.

Honestly, I blame the local rock station for not talking up the show enough. I hoped that it would be better when Seether took the stage; it wasn't.

Seether hit the stage with one of my favorites, Gasoline.

The crowds reaction: meh. It was fucking strange.

Again, I blame the local rock station. You've got two fantastic rock bands playing in a tiny little venue and there was no presence from the local rock station to be seen and you could tell that the vast majority of the people inside were not excited to be there. If I was on the air in Chattanooga I would have been talking about how this would be one of the best rock shows to come to town. The reaction from the crowd was kind of pathetic. Maybe that is the reason that both bands played short sets........

Black Stone Cherry's Setlist:
Maybe Someday
Me And Mary Jane
Yeah Man
In My Blood
Blind Man
Fiesta del Fuego
White Trash Millionaire
Blame It on the Boom Boom
Lonely Train

Seether's Setlist:
Gasoline
Fine Again
Driven Under
Broken
Drum Solo
Words As Weapons
Rise Above This
Tonight
Country Song
The Gift
Fake It
Remedy

I don't blame the venue. I don't blame the bands. I blame the crowd for being less than excited and I blame the local rock station for not giving them a reason to be excited.

I'll leave you with one of my favorites that didn't get played.
